OpenGTS Web Service Setup

Follow these three steps to deploy and configure the OpenGTS compatible web service on your server.

Download the Web Service Package

PACKAGE: skyangel.war

The web service is packaged as a standard Java WAR file (skyangel.war) that runs alongside your OpenGTS installation. Review the software license terms before downloading.

Review Terms & Download Package → Release Package: skyangel.war

Deploy Package to Servlet Container

TOMCAT / CATALINA DEPLOYMENT

Place the downloaded skyangel.war into your Apache Tomcat web applications folder. Tomcat will automatically expand and launch the application:

        # Copy to your Tomcat webapps folder

        cp skyangel.war $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/

If you are using a custom servlet container (Jetty, GlassFish, or standalone container), refer to your server documentation for standard WAR deployment.

3.1 Synchronize Server Configurations

To allow the web service to read your specific OpenGTS database and device mappings, copy your existing OpenGTS configuration files:

        # Copy OpenGTS XML, DTD, and CONF files (excluding web.xml)

        cd $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/track/WEB-INF

        cp *.xml *.dtd *.conf $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/skyangel/WEB-INF/

        # Restart Tomcat to apply changes

        $CATALINA_HOME/bin/shutdown.sh && $CATALINA_HOME/bin/startup.sh

3.2 Configure Android Application

Launch the Client for GTS app on your Android device. Navigate to Settings and enter your server URL pointing to /skyangel/WebS:

https://tracking.yourdomain.com/skyangel/WebS

⚠️ For enhanced fleet security and data privacy, we strongly recommend deploying your web service behind HTTPS with a valid SSL/TLS certificate.
